The Curious Grizzly

While visiting Jasper National Park in Alberta, Canada, we were staying in a wood cabin. It was located along the Athabasca River just off the old road leading into town.

One mid-morning as I glanced out our cabin window, I thought to myself … that’s a really large dog. Then I realized … it was not a dog … it was a grizzly bear! She was busy feeding on berries in the meadow. I carefully went outside our cabin and stood behind the hand rail on the deck and started to photograph her. She began to wander towards me - eating berries along the way … until she was about thirty feet away. Then she slowly looked towards me with a curious expression on her face. After eating a few more berries … she wandered off back into the woods. What a rare treat to be that close to a grizzly in the wild.
