Sky Sculptures and Turquoise Waters- Lenticular Clouds Over Lake Tekapo, New Zealand

Lake Tekapo, nestled in the heart of New Zealand's South Island, is renowned for its stunning turquoise waters, which owe their vibrant color to finely ground rock particles suspended in the glacial meltwater. On rare, clear days, the breathtaking view includes Mt. Cook, New Zealand's highest peak, standing majestically in the distance. Even in summer, the weather can change in the blink of an eye. The region is only 44 kilometers from the Tasman Sea coast, so storms can arrive suddenly. Where moist air flows over a mountain or a range of mountains, a series of large-scale standing waves may form on the downwind side. If the temperature at the crest of the wave drops to the dew point, moisture in the air may condense to form lenticular clouds.
