Stonehenge - Wiltshire, England

Stonehenge is perhaps the world’s most famous prehistoric monument. It was built in several stages: the first monument was an early henge monument, built about 5,000 years ago, and the unique stone circle was erected in the late Neolithic period about 2500 BC.

Standing amidst the massive, ancient stones, you can't help but be struck by their sheer size and presence. Each stone weighs tons, and imagining people moving them thousands of years ago is mind-boggling. This sense of awe is compounded by the mystery surrounding its purpose and construction. Who built it? Why? What rituals were performed here? The lack of definitive answers fuels the wonder and intrigue.

Some people describe feeling a sense of energy or even spirituality at Stonehenge. It's a reminder of the enduring power of human belief and ritual, and our connection to something larger than ourselves.

Photographers Tip: There is a fence around Stonehenge. However, the “Stone Circle Experience at Stonehenge” allows you to enter the circle. Visits last for an hour and take place in the early morning or evening, outside normal visiting hours. They're also subject to very limited availability, with a maximum of 30 people per session. Bookings can be scheduled on the www.english-heritage.org.uk website.
